Through a process that generates a uniform, highly fibrillated microstructure with equal tensile strength in all dimensions, expanded PTFE is utilised to produce expanded PTFE gasket material. As a consequence, expanded PTFE is devoid of any structural weaknesses or "grain."In the absence of additives, expanded PTFE exhibits chemical resistance that is distinct from that of virgin material. As it is considerably softer and more flexible than standard PTFE gaskets, expanded PTFE readily conforms to uneven and irregular surfaces. Compressibility is enhanced, and creep and frigid flow are reduced. For applications requiring high compressibility and conformability, expanded PTFE is therefore an ideal material.
